Why Football Is So Popular In America
Since the 1990s, the sport of football has been increasing in popularity in America. Though baseball is considered the national pastime, more people consider themselves football fans than baseball fans. There are several reasons for this.
One reason is that each team’s college and NFL football games are played once a week, and mostly on the weekends. It is much easier for a fan to watch all of his team’s games and clear space in his schedule to attend a football game and or watch one on TV when there is only one game per week per team.
Another reason is that each individual game holds a high importance. Because football is only played once a week and the season’s schedule consists of 12 to 16 games, each game is very important to a team’s success that season. One win or one loss can change the entire course of a season.
Finally, football is so popular in America because of the popularity of playing fantasy football. Most football fans play it at least one fantasy football league, so in addition to having a rooting interest for their own teams, they have a rooting interest in individual players’ statistics for their own fantasy team’s success.
