It’s fourth and goal with four seconds left in the game, and the offense is down by six points. Snow is whipping through the air, stinging the player’s faces as they form up on the line of scrimmage, glaring into each other’s determined eyes. Neither team is willing to lose this game, so both teams are ready to put all of their energy into this one final play. The DJ is pumping a bass-heavy song through the stadium and every member of the crowd is on their feet, screaming at the top of their lungs. Then, suddenly, the music stops, the crowd quiets down, and the ball is hiked. Every player goes into motion at once, slamming against each other as their coach’s brilliant plans play out on the field.

Only one team can win.

Plays like these are frequent in football, which is both a highly entertaining and deeply strategic game. The excitement and adrenaline in these tense moments is felt by both the spectators and the crowd alike, which is why football is so popular. Learning the intricacies of the game will show you that the experience is more of a physical chess game than anything else, and a lot can be learned by paying attention to how all of it works. Overall, a football game is definitely something that you don’t want to miss.

If you enjoy watching football, you probably make the routine of turning on the game a regular one. However, you might wonder what you can do to amp up the experience and to have a little more fun. Fortunately, there are a wealth of fun things that you can do while watching football, and a lot of them are very inexpensive.

First of all, consider preparing tasty snacks to enjoy while watching the game. Although you can always munch on a bag of chips or pick up a pizza, it is always a good idea to do something a little more special and creative. The whole story can be found at http://www.redtri.com/kids/super-bowl-party-ideas Luckily, there are lots of fun and easy recipes for wings, dips and other tasty foods that are perfect for munching while enjoying the game. Don’t forget the beverages, either; you can always make a tasty punch or pick up a favorite beer to enjoy.

Also, consider inviting over a few friends. Watching football is always a little more fun when you have someone else to watch it with, and you can talk about the game during the commercials. Guessing who will win and competing with your friends can be a lot of fun as well.

So you love football but you live somewhere that you only see a live game when you’re watching Direct.tv? Here are a few tips for getting your friends as into the sport as you are, even if you don’t get much of it around your parts!
Start a Fantasy Team: There’s nothing like a little competition to get guys into the game and a Fantasy league is cheap and easy to be a part of. Your buddies will start watching on Sundays and you can invite them over if you’re the only one with the right channels.
Get Some Games Going: Have you ever played snow football? It’s way more fun than you’d think and muddy, too, and if you’ve got young boys they’ll love it as well. Playing in person helps get people excited.
Take a Trip: If all else fails plan a family or guys trip to somewhere football tastic like Green Bay or California or even the Southeast to watch a live game. There’s nothing like that first football game to get you in the spirit.

Football is a sport that is steeped in tradition. This is especially true on the college level where the teams have been playing for hundreds of years. The fact that the players are playing for free builds an even bigger sense of community. The Midwest has some of the longest traditions in football because of how long their teams have been playing. Some of the rivalries have been going on for years.

One of the longest traditions is the singing of Carmen, OH after every football game. All the players, coaches and fans gather at the end of the game to sing the school son in unison. This has been a tradition since around 1909. The song was written in 1906 by Fred Cornell after a loss to their rival The University of Michigan.

One of the most intense traditions in all of college football is the “Play Like a Champion Today” sign at Notre Dame. This sign hangs at the end of the tunnel the players take out to the field. Each player slaps it with his hand on the way out of the locker room before they enter battle. Lou Holtz had the sign put up in 1986. It’s not the oldest tradition in football but it may be the most hallowed.

The most popular team to watch this season has to be the Super Bowl Champion, Green Bay Packers. The Packers are led by a great young quarterback in Aaron Rodgers and are buoyed by several different players who make big plays along with him. The defense is headlined by the trio of A.J. Hawk, Clay Matthews and Charles Woodson. Whenever one of these three stars can get near the ball, a game breaking turnover is a great possibility. The big question for the Packers this season is whether or not they will lose this year.

If for some reason one is not able there are other teams that are worth watching. In the AFC, the New England Patriots will be worth watching as long as quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick run the show. The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens provide defensive muscle that is second to none in the AFC for fans of that style of football. In the NFC, the New Orleans Saints led by quarterback Drew Brees and coach Sean Payton put up a lot of points and yards. The young Detroit Lions have promise with stars Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford and Ndamukong Suh.

Football is arguably the most popular sport in America. Full of action, determination, and drama, everyone knows at least a little bit about the sport. The rules of the game are relatively easy, but it is important to understand what common penalties affect the outcomes of the games. Here are 5 of the most common penalties, along with the corresponding yards, explained in simple terms.

1. Off-sides: When a defender or offensive player lines up ahead of the ball – 5 yards

2. False Start: When an offensive player moves ahead to block or begin the play before the ball is snapped – 5 yards.

3. Encroachment: When a defensive player moves to begin a play. This penalty depends on the level of football (college, NFL, etc.). Example: In the NFL you must touch someone before the referees throw the penalty.

4. Holding: When an offensive player holds a defender by his jersey and prevents him from moving away from a block. This penalty can also be a defensive penalty when a defender blatantly holds up a receiver and prevents him from making an attempt at the football. Both are 10 yards.

5. Pass Interference: This penalty occurs when a defender prevents a receiver from making an attempt on the ball – 15 yards.

Now that you know what the penalties are, and how they affect a team’s ability to get into the end zone, you’re ready to watch football and truly understand what’s happening and why teams get penalized in the first place.

The basic rules of the game of football are not as hard to get down as one would think. You really need to start with the purpose of the game and then let the rules fall into place as they fit with the purpose. The easy and obvious purpose is to score more points than your opponent. You would do this by having your offense score points and your defense stopping the opposing teams offense from scoring. The field is 100 yards long with two “endzones” at each end. The purpose of the offense is to take the ball into their “endzone” this is how they score points, these are called “touchdowns”. Behind the endzones are u-shaped posts that you can kick the ball through, these are called “field goals”. Touchdowns are worth 6 points and field goals are worth 3. On offense you have 11 players on the field with one of them being a quarterback. The quarterback is the leader of the offense, he has the ball hiked to him by a player called the center. The quarterback can then choose what to do with the ball, he can either hand it to a designated player called the running back or throw the ball to a player called the wide receiver. The purpose of the defense, which also has 11 players on the field, when this is happening is to tackle the player with the ball. There is an offensive and defensive line in front of the quarterback. The offensive line protects the quarterback from being tackled, while the defensive line tries to tackle the quarterback. Also on defense are linebackers that stand back from the line and try to see where the ball is going to go and then follow the ball to tackle the player and there are cornerbacks that run with the wide receivers and try to intercept or deflect the ball if it is thrown to them. The offense has 4 “downs” to move the ball 10 yards. If they can not move the ball 10 yards within the 4 plays or downs then the other team is awarded the ball. On 4th down, you have the option to kick or “punt” the ball, which pushes your opponent back on the other side of the field making it more difficult for their offense to get to their touchdown. This starts the cycle all over again.

Football is by far the most popular sport in America. People not only love to watch it, they love to play it as well. Kids and adults will set up games of football in fields, streets and parks. What is the best way to go about playing football at home and setting up these games? Let’s take a quick look at how to play football at home.

The best way to play football at home is to get as many people to play as possible. Want more? Click here. This makes the game much more fun and more realistic. But you can actually play football with as few as three people. One of the three will be the designated quarterback for the other two players. The two players will take turns on offense and defense and the first player to a set score wins the game. Designated quarterbacks are good to play with if you don’t have that many people to play with you.

The best games will be played with eight or more people. Every player is responsible for guarding another player on the opposing team. Set the boundaries and the goals. You will also want to set up a predetermined score that must be reached to win the game.

NFL football has become America’s favorite sport in recent years, and with good reason: it’s great to watch on television, and the action is fast, furious, and fueled by the most dominant and versatile athletes on the planet. There are a few key players that even the newest NFL fan should know about:

1. Tom Brady: He has been to four Super Bowls, won three of them, and put together two of the greatest passing seasons any quarterback has ever had (2007 and 2010). Put it this way: he’s good enough that he married the world’s most famous supermodel.

2. Peyton Manning: The Colts quarterback will probably break every major career passing record before he’s done, and his precision passing is a thrill to watch.

3. Larry Fitzgerald: His touchdown in the 2009 Super Bowl versus Pittsburgh was one of the most breathtaking sprints in league history.

4. Adrian Peterson: A stunning combination of speed and strength at running back for Minnesota, he is as likely to leave defenders in the dust as he is to run right over the top of them.

5. Desean Jackson: This Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver may be the fastest player in the whole NFL.More info here: Philadelphia Eagles: 5 Additions That Would Make Them Super Bowl Favorites

Since the 1990s, the sport of football has been increasing in popularity in America. Though baseball is considered the national pastime, more people consider themselves football fans than baseball fans. There are several reasons for this.

One reason is that each team’s college and NFL football games are played once a week, and mostly on the weekends. It is much easier for a fan to watch all of his team’s games and clear space in his schedule to attend a football game and or watch one on TV when there is only one game per week per team.

Another reason is that each individual game holds a high importance. Because football is only played once a week and the season’s schedule consists of 12 to 16 games, each game is very important to a team’s success that season. One win or one loss can change the entire course of a season.

Finally, football is so popular in America because of the popularity of playing fantasy football. Most football fans play it at least one fantasy football league, so in addition to having a rooting interest for their own teams, they have a rooting interest in individual players’ statistics for their own fantasy team’s success.
